¹² “Do not lay a hand on the boy,” he said. “Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God,^(A) because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son.^(B)”

¹⁶ and said, “I swear by myself,^(A) declares the Lord, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son,^{(B) 17} I will surely bless you^(C) and make your descendants^(D) as numerous as the stars in the sky^(E) and as the sand on the seashore.^(F) Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies,^{(G) 18} and through your offspring^[a] all nations on earth will be blessed,^[b](H) because you have obeyed me.”^(I)

¹¹ Save me, I pray, from the hand of my brother Esau, for I am afraid^(A) he will come and attack me,^(B) and also the mothers with their children.^(C)

²¹ They said to one another, “Surely we are being punished because of our brother.^(A) We saw how distressed he was when he pleaded with us for his life, but we would not listen; that’s why this distress^(B) has come on us.”

²⁷ Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron. “This time I have sinned,”^(A) he said to them. “The Lord is in the right,^(B) and I and my people are in the wrong.

²⁸ Pray^(A) to the Lord, for we have had enough thunder and hail. I will let you go;^(B) you don’t have to stay any longer.”

⁷ Pharaoh’s officials said to him, “How long will this man be a snare^(A) to us? Let the people go, so that they may worship the Lord their God. Do you not yet realize that Egypt is ruined?”^(B)

¹⁶ Pharaoh quickly summoned^(A) Moses and Aaron and said, “I have sinned^(B) against the Lord your God and against you.
